Electrical Re-wiring

There are many different opinions as to how often you should re-wire a property: after about 25 - 30 plus years, when a specific problem requires the wiring to be replaced or when you have old rubber insulated wiring.

When electrics get old they can be potentially dangerous. Old wiring may not have all the safety features that modern wiring includes, which can make sockets and appliances risky to use.

Re-wires are a large project but it doesn’t have to be a traumatic experience. Jayden Electrical are experienced electricians and work to 18th Edition BS7671 British Standards to ensure they can be completed with minimum fuss and disruption. We would fully test and issue the required electrical certification you will require for your local authority and should you want to sell your property in the future.

Rewiring happens in two stages: first fix is where the cables and wiring are installed and second fix is where everything is made ‘live’ & when the faces plates of sockets, switches and lights are fitted. Runs of wires go everywhere: under floors, through walls and across ceilings, so it is best to do the first fix without carpets or furniture so floorboards can be lifted and ceilings cut into.

It is important to plan what’s going where in each room before starting the first fix stage so you know where you require lights & sockets. One way to prepare is to draw a plan marking the position of beds, sofas, kitchen units and so on. You can then consider the lighting and switches required. Little things like under-cabinet and bedside lighting are easy to do when planned from the start, but costly to undertake later. As well as thinking about lighting, remember smoke and heat alarms, garden sockets and lighting.
